Reduction In Diesel Price To Bring Direct Benefits To The People – Mustapha

Kuala lumpur: The reduction in the subsidised diesel price to RM2.10 per litre from July indicates that the economic reforms and targeted subsidy measures implemented by the MADANI Government are beginning to deliver direct benefits to the people. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud stated that the targeted subsidy mechanism, facilitated through the use of MyKad, will not only ensure subsidies reach eligible Malaysians but also help curb leakages and smuggling, which have long undermined the effectiveness of the country's subsidy system.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the measure is being implemented amidst ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and pressures on global energy markets. The conflict in West Asia necessitates a more strategic approach to safeguarding energy security and economic stability. Mustapha highlighted Malaysia's efforts to strengthen energy cooperation with countries such as Russia and Turkmenistan, along with securing energy supplies through strategic ties with major energy-producing nations. This demonstrates the MADANI Government's commitment to enhancing the country's long-term energy resilience.

He further noted that the diesel price reduction reflects Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's administrative efficiency in prudently managing the national economy. The reforms undertaken have succeeded in easing the cost of living burden borne by the people.

Yesterday, Anwar announced that the subsidised diesel price for Malaysians would be reduced to RM2.10 per litre from July, aligning with the approach adopted under the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme using MyKad verification. Currently, diesel is sold at the subsidised retail price of RM2.15 per litre at all petrol stations in Sabah and Sarawak, while in Peninsular Malaysia, it is sold at the unsubsidised retail price of RM4.37 per litre.
