Residents Of Jalan Papan, Pandamaran To Get Affordable Housing – MB Selangor

Kuala lumpur: Residents in Jalan Papan, Pandamaran, Klang, who were affected by the demolition of their houses will receive affordable housing to be developed by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB). Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the matter was agreed upon in a meeting this morning when the developer agreed to hand over 2.83 hectares (seven acres) of land for a comprehensive development project.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that the developer agreed to hand over seven acres of land for housing development for the urban settlers. He mentioned that while development will take time due to its comprehensive nature, temporary housing options like the Smart Sewa Skim house are available, and financial assistance discussions can be initiated if needed.

Amirudin expressed regret over the prolonged issue and emphasized the state government's role as the mediator in attempting to resolve it. He remains confident that the land ownership issue can be resolved amicably if residents choose not to pursue it in court.

He highlighted past efforts where solutions were proposed, including developers offering land sites, but the persistence of court cases led to rulings in favor of the developer. Despite the state government's attempts to assist, previous efforts did not succeed.

The media previously reported that the urban settlers' issue, ongoing for 25 years, is nearing resolution after developer Melati Ehsan Consolidated Sdn Bhd (MECSB) consented to hand over 2.8 hectares of land to the Selangor State Government. State Housing and Culture Exco Datuk Borhan Aman Shah confirmed an official letter was issued to MECSB on Nov 11 to confirm the handover.

Tensions had risen during previous house demolitions in Kampung Papan, with individuals claiming residency protesting aggressively. The Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting is set to resume on Nov 17.
