Kuala lumpur: Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek stated that calls for her resignation act as a 'reminder' and motivation to enhance efforts for students and the education system. She acknowledged that these demands, following major incidents in schools, highlight the need for the ministry to strengthen policies and address issues affecting teachers and students more effectively.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadhlina emphasized that such calls should be viewed as an indication to improve. During school visits, she prioritizes students, reflecting the ministry's focus. She acknowledged that facing challenges, including resignation calls, is part of political life. Fadhlina affirmed her commitment to improvement, despite acknowledging existing weaknesses, and stated her focus remains on doing her best.
Fadhlina shared that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim advised her to remain patient amidst these challenges, recounting his own experiences as Education Minister. He encouraged her by saying, "we will do better," a sentiment she echoed by promising significant improvements.
She revealed that the Education Ministry plans immediate reforms and ongoing program strengthening through cross-ministerial efforts, involving various ministries like Health, Home, Communications, and Women, Family and Community Development. The initiative will also engage the broader community, including Parent-Teacher Associations, NGOs, and the Parent, Community and Private Sector Involvement initiative to address school safety challenges.
Fadhlina stated that this effort will be intensive and continuous, with instructions issued to all State Education Departments and District Education Offices to implement practical and efficient measures in over 10,000 schools nationwide. The ministry's leadership will continue engaging with educators and students to gather feedback on these initiatives.
