Penang: Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib today emphasized the importance of respecting the institution of the Constitutional Monarchy as a fundamental aspect of nation-building and ensuring the stability of the nation's governance system. He highlighted that the monarchy is not merely a historical legacy but an integral part of the governance structure that ensures a balance between power, responsibility, and the rights of the people.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tun Ramli stated that this principle is enshrined in one of the five principles of Rukun Negara, which should be understood, appreciated, and preserved with a sense of responsibility. He explained that in the country, the monarchy institution is a symbol of sovereignty and serves as a guardian of constitutional supremacy, a preserver of traditional values, and a unifier of the people in a spirit of patriotism.
Tun Ramli urged the people of Penang to express respect for the monarchy through sincere attitudes, understanding, and appreciation. He asserted that the institution of the state, founded on the principle of a Constitutional Monarchy, will remain intact as long as the people adhere to this foundation.
Additionally, Tun Ramli mentioned that the upcoming National Month should be a platform to strengthen the spirit of independence and foster a love for the country. He emphasized that independence is a shared responsibility of every citizen to preserve peace, appreciate freedom, and defend progress.
In his address, the Governor congratulated the state government for achieving a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 4.8 percent last year, bringing the state's GDP to RM121.5 billion. He noted that systematic, focused, and progressive administration is key to ensuring sustainable economic stability.
The Governor's birthday celebration commenced with a 17-gun salute, parade inspection, and the investiture of state awards, medals, and honors. Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, who received the State Commander-in-Chief (DPPN) title of Datuk Seri, led the list of 280 recipients. This year, 150 individuals will receive the Order of Merit, and 1,380 people will receive medals and honors across the four-day ceremony starting today.
