Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today reiterated that he has never interfered in the affairs of the judiciary, including the appointment of judges or any court decisions, since taking over the country's administration. He stated that the process of judicial appointments must be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Constitution and established jurisdiction.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized his stance while addressing reporters after performing the Friday prayers at Surau Ar-Rahim. He mentioned that for over two and a half years as Prime Minister, he has consistently refrained from interfering in judicial appointments or court decisions. He stressed the importance of adhering to the process stipulated in the Federal Constitution.
Meanwhile, commenting on the Malaysian Bar's intention to organize a peaceful assembly and march this Monday, Anwar stated that it was the decision of the organizers. He noted that the issue of judicial independence raised by the Malaysian Bar has already been addressed by Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Law and Institutional Reform, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, and even the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The Prime Minister further mentioned that any proposals to change the mechanism for judicial appointments would require amendments to the Federal Constitution. He reiterated that the process currently follows the practices outlined in the Federal Constitution.
The Malaysian Bar had previously announced plans for a peaceful assembly and march, beginning at the Palace of Justice and concluding at the Prime Minister's Office, to submit a memorandum regarding judicial appointments.
