REVIEW NEEDED TO MAKE S’WAK CIVIL SERVANTS’ SALARIES MORE COMPETITIVE – ABANG JO

KUCHING, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Abang Openg emphasised the need to conduct a pay rise review for Sarawak’s civil servants, to make their salaries more competitive.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman welcomed the recent announcement by the Federal government to raise salaries and confirmed that Sarawak will also adjust its civil servants’ pay.

“We are currently conducting a detailed study on these adjustments to ensure they are competitive and align with the duties and responsibilities of Sarawak’s civil servants and the financial strength of the state government.

“I will announce the results of this study soon, pending the detailed salary adjustments from the Federal government,” he stated while winding up the debate for his ministry at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly today.

On May 1, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a salary increase of over 13 percent for civil servants starting this December, describing it as one of the highest and best increases.

Anwar, who is al
so Minister of Finance, said that under the forthcoming Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA), the government will raise salaries to ensure civil servants’ minimum income exceeds RM2,000 per month. Currently, it is at RM1,795 per month, inclusive of basic salary and fixed allowances.

Details of the salary increase will be announced during the tabling of the Budget 2025, scheduled for October.
