Kuala lumpur: The National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Council is set to allocate RM1 million to Kolej Yayasan Felda (KYF) for the initiation of a smart partnership twinning programme with Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) and Universiti Poly-Tech Malaysia (UPTM). Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced this strategic collaboration during KYF's 26th Convocation at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposal for this collaboration was presented to KYF as part of wider efforts to enhance Malaysia's TVET education sector. Dr Ahmad Zahid stated that an agreement is anticipated soon, extending the offer to Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek to implement the programme in cooperation with both universities. The RM1 million allocation from the National TVET Council will be channelled to KYF through the Felda chairman to support and oversee the programme.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who also chairs the National TVET Council, highlighted KYF's significant contribution to the national skills development ecosystem, noting that the college has produced over 31,633 alumni who have played crucial roles in various strategic sectors. In light of this, he proposed creating a special pathway to facilitate the reintegration of KYF alumni into the institution as educators, industry mentors, entrepreneurship coaches, or technical contributors in collaboration with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and Mara.
He emphasized the value of KYF alumni as assets to Felda, describing them as symbols of success and catalysts for the future. The Deputy Prime Minister encouraged KYF to expand its high-impact TVET programmes in areas such as food technology, handicrafts, smart agriculture, the digital economy, and rural social entrepreneurship to align with future industry demands and ensure the institution's relevance in an inclusive and sustainable rural development ecosystem.
