Kuala lumpur: The government has allocated RM110 million under Budget 2026 as an incentive to encourage local and international film producers to create high-quality works in Malaysia, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, stated that the allocation included RM10 million specifically for the production of nationhood-related content. This move is part of the MADANI government's commitment to supporting creative works that strengthen the orange economy ecosystem. The budget also earmarks RM20 million to support the Digital Creative Ecosystem, particularly for local animation and digital gaming creators, and RM10 million as incentives for organising concerts by local and international artistes in Malaysia, aiming to attract foreign tourists for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
To further encourage local animation creators, the government has agreed to grant procurement flexibility to all ministries and departments to purchase merchandise and digital content products, Anwar announced while tabling Budget 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat.
In addition to financial incentives for the creative industry, Anwar highlighted the revival of the 'Hadiah Bahasa' award, reflecting the government's commitment to strengthening the Malay language as a symbol of national pride. He emphasized that the Malay language is vital to national identity and must be nurtured in Malaysia. The Ministry of Education will prioritize the Malay language in all schools and streams, addressing lapses in implementation observed in 249 international schools.
Anwar also stressed that international schools must ensure the inclusion of Malay language and national studies for all Malaysian students. Simultaneously, he noted the importance of prioritizing English language mastery within the national education system from the primary level to meet current demands.
