RM2 Million Allocated to Bolster Drainage and Mitigate Flooding in Sungai Rambai

Kuala lumpur: More than RM2 million has been allocated to implement flood mitigation projects aimed at upgrading irrigation systems involving rivers and drains in the Sungai Rambai state constituency. Of this amount, RM1 million is specifically earmarked for Parit Keliling in Kampung Semujuk, Seri Mendapat.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sungai Rambai state assemblyman Datuk Siti Faizah Abdul Azis emphasized the aim of these projects is to strengthen the drainage system and minimize flooding impact in the area. She noted that Sungai Rambai serves as a catchment area, receiving water flow from Johor during heavy rainfall due to its geographical location.

Siti Faizah explained that the region's terrain, known for retaining water and fertile soil, naturally contributes to its status as a catchment area. This geographical attribute necessitates constant vigilance and collaboration with relevant agencies to address potential flooding threats.

The assemblyman made these remarks to Bernama following the closing ceremony of Festival D'Bendang Melaka 2026, an event officiated by Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang, in Sungai Rambai.

She further highlighted the ongoing maintenance efforts, noting that 46 drains throughout the constituency are cleaned and maintained regularly to keep the drainage system in optimal condition. The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) plays a crucial role in assisting with cleaning the main drains to ensure smooth water flow.

The upgrades to drainage infrastructure and regular maintenance are crucial in reducing flood-related damage and enhancing preparedness for future incidents, Siti Faizah stated.

In addition, she mentioned that this year's three-day Festival D'Bendang Melaka 2026 featured various activities, including a rural entrepreneurs' mini carnival, agency exhibitions, and 50 folk games, marking a successful event that began on Friday.
