RMN Conducts 615 Operations Throughout 2024

Kuala Lumpur: In 2024, the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) carried out a significant number of operations, totaling 615, which included six continuous exercises and three periodic procedures. The RMN ensured that its naval assets were strategically stationed in Maritime Operational Areas throughout the year, maintaining operational readiness.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief of Navy Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain highlighted that the RMN's readiness level was recorded at 56.52 per cent, which falls short of the intended target of 75 per cent. Despite this, the RMN Fleet has demonstrated consistent preparedness and capability in fulfilling its assigned duties.

The audit management results showed that 35 out of 37 commands and units achieved a four-star rating or higher, amounting to 94.59 per cent, which is a slight decline from the 97.22 per cent recorded in 2023. Admiral Zulhelmy expressed his hope for improved performance in 2025 during his New Year message.

In terms of financial management, the RMN effectively utilised its entire budget of RM1.676 billion for 2024. For the upcoming year, the Navy's budget allocation has increased to RM1.761 billion, marking a rise of RM84.93 million. Admiral Zulhelmy emphasized the need for each Responsibility Centre Manager to devise careful strategies and spending plans to ensure the optimal use of the allocated budget.

On the subject of human capital development, he noted that 420 officers and 3,860 other ranks were promoted in 2024. This reflects the commitment and dedication of Navy personnel toward their service.
