Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has emphasized the need for collective action among ministries, agencies, industries, and communities to enhance road safety in Malaysia. As the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Road Safety and Congestion, Ahmad Zahid highlighted that national decisions must lead to tangible protection on the ground.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid stressed that road safety should not be the responsibility of a single ministry. It requires coordination and shared ownership across government and society. Speaking at the Road Safety Congress 2025, held alongside Transport Expo Asia, he noted that the Malaysia's Road Safety Plan 2022-2030 aims to reduce fatalities by 50 per cent by the end of the decade. This initiative demands not only infrastructure and enforcement but a cultural shift towards responsibility and care.

Ahmad Zahid outlined government priorities, including enhancing heavy vehicle safety, improving school zones, addressing blackspots, and intensifying enforcement against speeding and overloading. He stressed that road safety is a shared responsibility, involving parents, teachers, employers, local councils, and industry.

Culture, according to Ahmad Zahid, is shaped by habits and laws. It begins at home, grows in schools, and spreads through communities. He called for engaging youth and the public through modern education methods like augmented reality and gaming, encouraging student-led initiatives, and digital ambassador programs.

Ahmad Zahid reaffirmed Malaysia's dedication to fostering a culture of responsibility, with safety as a guiding principle in decision-making.
