Johor bahru: The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project has reached 56 percent physical progress as of June. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that this development includes track construction, station development, and system and train testing.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Onn Hafiz expressed confidence that these advancements are pivotal in elevating Johor as a significant economic power in the region. He emphasized that the progress reflects the commitment of both the state and federal governments, along with Singapore, in establishing modern, efficient, and safe infrastructure aimed at benefiting the public.
The RTS Link, which will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North in Singapore in just five minutes, is expected to alleviate border congestion, fortify Malaysia-Singapore relations, and stimulate the regional economy. Onn Hafiz highlighted that the project, slated for completion by the end of 2026, is designed to operate with high efficiency. It is projected to carry 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with a frequency of 3.6 minutes during peak hours, allowing it to accommodate up to 180,000 passengers daily.
The launch of the first RTS Link train in Singapore was witnessed by Onn Hafiz and Transport Minister Anthony Loke, alongside Singapore's Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow and Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.
