Kuala lumpur: The enforcement of the Rukun Tetangga 1975 (Amendment) 2025 Act (Act 751), officially commencing today, marks an important step in transforming the role of Kawasan Rukun Tetangga (KRT) or Neighbourhood Watch areas to be more dynamic, responsive, and effective, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aaron highlighted in a post on platform X that a key focus of the amendment is the coordination of appointment periods by extending the tenure of KRT Committee Members (AJKRT) to ensure continuity of leadership and sustainability of community programme implementation. This change is aimed at strengthening the act's provisions by improving existing regulations to address current needs and social challenges at the grassroots level.
Aaron noted that the amendment was approved in the Dewan Rakyat on December 2, 2025, and in the Dewan Negara on December 17, 2025, with support from the majority of Members of Parliament. This endorsement reflects the government's ongoing commitment to empowering community institutions for the inclusive and harmonious welfare of the people.
