RunFest Grand Prix 2027 to Feature New Competitive 5km Soloist Category

Kuala Lumpur:KL Wellness City is set to host the RunFest Grand Prix Race 2027 from March 26 to 28, introducing a new 5km Soloist category alongside the returning SEKIDEN team relay.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the event was officially launched at the KL Wellness City Gallery in Bukit Jalil. Unikorn Events Sdn Bhd's managing director, Niklas Yong, stated that the new category is being introduced due to strong demand for individual competition, first observed at the inaugural KL RunFest in 2025.

Unlike typical 5km races, which are often fun runs, this event will be highly competitive. Runners will progress to the semi-finals and finals based on their fastest lap times. The top 60 runners will move on to the semi-finals, and the best 30 will advance to the finals.

The SEKIDEN relay will involve three-person teams, with the qualifying round covering 12km and the final 6km. About 500 teams are expected, with the 30 teams recording the fastest overall qualifying times advancing to the final.

Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew, KL Wellness City Executive Director of Branding, Sales and Marketing, said the event aligns with the city's vision of promoting health, wellness, and active living. The SEKIDEN relay emphasizes teamwork and community, while the Soloist category allows individuals to compete at their own pace.

Participants, families, and friends can enjoy a RunFest Village, which will offer food, games, and activities over the three-day event. The Soloist category will have men's and women's Open divisions for ages 18 to 39, and Veteran divisions for those aged 40 and above.

Registration, with a total prize purse of RM13,500, opens on Oct 7. Participants are encouraged to follow RunFest's official channels and Unikorn Events Sdn Bhd for registration details and updates.
