Kuala lumpur: Sabah FC has signed two experienced Argentine players to strengthen its squad for the 2026/2027 Super League season.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, striker Gonzalo Ignacio Di Renzo, 30, popularly known as Gonza, and goalkeeper Juan Flere Pizzuti, 28, have each signed one-season contracts with the Rhinos squad. "Gonza brings vast experience from his career journey across several countries, having also recorded more than 200 appearances in various competitive tournaments, to strengthen the Rhinos squad's attacking force," the club stated.
Gonza, who was born in Bahia Blanca, Argentina, shared that his decision to join Sabah FC from Spanish club CF Talavera de la Reina was driven by the club's strong confidence in him. "I believe this is an ambitious project. I want to take on a new challenge and experience football in Asia first-hand," he said.
Pizzuti, from San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, joined after playing for Spanish club CE Europa, marking a new chapter in his career. He described the opportunity to join Sabah FC as an exciting challenge and expressed enthusiasm for the chance to live in Malaysia and learn about the local culture.
The goalkeeper has accumulated more than 100 competitive appearances in Spanish football, including in the Primera Federaci³n, Segunda Federaci³n, Segunda Divisi³n B, Copa del Rey, and La Liga 2.
Before this, Sabah FC had signed three import players: Spanish defender Kike Lopez, 32, South Korean midfielder Park Jungbin, 32, and Philippines international midfielder Oskari Kekkonen, 27.
Under the guidance of former national Under-23 head coach Juan Torres Garrido, Sabah FC will begin their Super League campaign this season against STAR City FC (formerly Immigration FC) at Likas Stadium on August 23. Last season, the club finished ninth in the league with 23 points.
