Kota kinabalu: The Sabah government has established the Sabah Law Reform Advisory Council (SLRAC) to uphold the rule of law, strengthen governance, and promote legal reform in the state.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor stated that the formation of SLRAC is a key initiative aimed at modernising and enhancing the legal framework in Sabah to better meet the needs of its residents. He emphasized the importance of the council's recommendations in shaping meaningful and lasting legal reform.
In a ceremony at Menara Kinabalu, Hajiji presented appointment letters to the SLRAC chairman, former Chief Justice of Sabah and Sarawak, Tan Sri David Wong Dak Wah, and other council members. The council includes Datuk Daniel Tan Jwee Peng, Dr David Fung Yin Kee, Datuk John Sikayun, Datuk Roger Chin Ken Fong, and Shakinur Ain Karama, with Janice Junie Lim serving as Secretary.
Hajiji highlighted that the council aligns with his vision of a progressive and inclusive Sabah, where legal development keeps pace with social and economic progress. SLRAC is tasked with reviewing state laws and recommending reforms to improve their clarity, efficiency, and fairness while respecting Sabah's unique heritage.
The council's mandate includes ensuring that proposed reforms adhere to the unique values, customs, and socio-cultural realities of Sabah, furthering the state's development objectives.
