Sabah Government Allocates Over RM100 Million for Sports Development Next Year.


KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah state government has announced a significant allocation of RM101.49 million for youth and sports development in the state for the upcoming year, as revealed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. The funds are designated for the management and execution of various youth and sports programs under the state Youth and Sports Ministry.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Chief Minister also disclosed that RM12.24 million has been earmarked for upgrading the facilities at Likas Stadium, specifically the running track. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to ensure sports facilities across the state are conducive, safe, and comfortable for both athletes and public use. These remarks were made during the opening ceremony of the 16th SEA Youth Athletics Championship at the Likas Stadium.

In a speech delivered by Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Elron Alfred Angin on behalf of Hajiji, it was highlighted that Sabah is privileged to host the 16th Southeast Asian (SEA) Youth A
thletics Championship. This event plays a vital role in enhancing athletic standards and fostering camaraderie among participants from different nations. The championship is seen as a platform for Malaysian athletes to compete against top regional contenders, with aspirations for them to represent Malaysia at higher levels and prestigious championships.

Hajiji emphasized the pride in Malaysian athletes, including those from Sabah, who have achieved commendable success on regional and international stages. The Sabah government remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting sports development, particularly for young athletes.

The championship has welcomed over 200 athletes from 11 countries: Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Myanmar, and host country Malaysia. Hajiji acknowledged their participation as a testament to the event’s significance and excitement. He encouraged the athletes to celebrate athleticism, teamwork, and healthy competition, ur
