Sabah Immigration Department Repatriates Over 4,700 Illegal Immigrants in 2023

Kota kinabalu: The Sabah Immigration Department has successfully repatriated 4,750 illegal immigrants of various nationalities to their countries of origin so far this year.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the department reported that the majority of those repatriated were Filipinos, totaling 3,008 individuals. This was followed by 1,478 Indonesians, 118 Pakistanis, 109 Chinese, 18 Vietnamese, and 19 individuals from other nationalities. A recent transfer involved 144 Indonesian nationals who were sent back via a commercial ferry.

The department's statement detailed that the Indonesian detainees ranged from three to 68 years old, including 107 adult men, 26 adult women, four boys, and seven girls. The children were accompanied by their parents or designated escorts. These individuals were housed in the Kota Kinabalu, Papar, and Sandakan Immigration Detention Depots and were repatriated after serving their sentences under applicable legal provisions and obtaining the necessary Travel Documents in Lieu of Passport (SPLP).

The Immigration Department of Malaysia emphasized the importance of community vigilance and urged the public to avoid harboring or employing illegal immigrants. It encouraged reporting of any illegal immigrant activities through official channels.

The public is urged to use the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) portal or the Online Enquiry System (SPO) to report any information or complaints regarding illegal immigrant activities.
