Kota kinabalu: Sabah Parks is closely monitoring the formation of ice at the Panalaban substation area of Kinabalu Park, situated at an elevation of approximately 3,272.7 meters above sea level. This observation follows an occurrence of ice formation recorded yesterday, April 16.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sabah Parks released a statement explaining that the phenomenon was attributed to ongoing dry weather conditions and low humidity levels around Mount Kinabalu throughout the past week. These environmental factors led to a significant temperature drop at higher altitudes, causing ice to form on plant surfaces and within the surrounding environment at the Panalaban base camp.
Sabah Parks further clarified that ice formation is a natural and periodic phenomenon in the high-altitude areas of Mount Kinabalu, especially during periods of clear and dry weather when temperatures sharply decrease between night and early morning.
The park management advised climbers, mountain guides, porters, and staff in the Panalaban area to wear suitable cold-weather clothing, remain well-hydrated, and follow all safety instructions provided by park authorities. They emphasized that Sabah Parks will maintain ongoing monitoring of weather and temperature changes in the highland areas to ensure the safety of both visitors and staff.
