Sabah Polls: Nizam Commits to Gazette Villages and Boost Development in Apas

Kota kinabalu: Incumbent Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan has committed to gazette several long-established villages in the Apas state constituency, currently classified as squatter areas, if reelected as Sabahans prepare for the 17th State Election tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nizam, the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate, emphasized the coastal region's numerous settlements that have long been inhabited but lack official recognition. He recently secured government approval for the gazettement of Kampung Pangkalan Inderasabah, with plans to address additional settlements pending attention.

Nizam also aims to develop new townships, implement the People's Housing Programme (PPR), and establish a Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) faculty in Apas, aligning with the area's economic potential. Collaborations with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), the Sabah Human Resources Development Department, and community colleges are planned to enhance local economic strength and skill development.

Having served two terms, Nizam highlighted his achievements in addressing community concerns, such as upgrading village roads, bridges, and improving water supply through infrastructure enhancements. He noted the replacement of old water pipes and installation of static tanks to improve water access.

Reporting on infrastructure improvements, Nizam detailed the upgrading of major village roads to paved surfaces and the reconstruction of several mosques. Flood mitigation projects and the development of Tinagat and Batu Payung coastlines as tourist attractions were also implemented, along with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Friendly Homes project.

Community feedback from Apas constituency development unit supervisor Mohd Hafiz Rustam and residents like Sabturani Angsa and Badrie Mahmad reflects support for Nizam's efforts in ensuring basic facilities are accessible and his commitment to community development.
