Sabah Polls: PH’s Remysta Vows To Fast-track Flood Mitigation Projects In Moyog

Sabah: Accelerating the implementation of flood mitigation projects in the Moyog constituency is the main focus of Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Remysta Jimmy Taylor in the 17th Sabah State Election. He said the priority is in line with the needs of residents in the constituency within the Penampang parliamentary area, who frequently face flooding that disrupts their daily lives.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced funding to prepare for this flood mitigation project in Moyog. Remysta emphasized the urgency of fast-tracking these projects as settlements in the area are often affected by flooding. He addressed reporters at a community engagement programme for the Moyog state constituency at Pasar Tamu Donggongon, attended by PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Remysta also stated his commitment to ensuring that infrastructure improvement projects in the constituency are executed promptly if he receives the mandate in the election. Under Budget 2026, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, announced a total allocation of RM6.9 billion for Sabah. This includes RM765 million for the construction of the Southern Link power line, RM220 million for the repair of infrastructure damaged by recent natural disasters, and RM39 million for Phase 2 of the flood mitigation projects in Sabah.

On his first participation in the political arena, Remysta admitted feeling nervous but noted that the support from PKR and PH leadership motivated him to continue providing the best service to residents. He expressed that despite being a first-time candidate, the presence and backing of the Deputy President on the ground made him very happy, allowing him to engage with and understand the issues faced by the community. He added that PH's campaign preparation and operations have been running smoothly.

The Moyog constituency, hosting 31,083 registered voters, will experience a 12-cornered contest in the upcoming polls. The seat was previously won by Datuk Ignatius Darell Leiking under the Warisan ticket with a majority of 5,935 votes. Polling is scheduled for Nov 29, with early voting set for Nov 25.
