Kuala lumpur: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that the 17th Sabah State Election provides an opportunity for the federal government to showcase key issues and initiatives that have been implemented in the state. The Prime Minister emphasized that the election serves as a platform for Sabah residents to evaluate the efforts made by the MADANI Government over the past three years.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the federal government, mentioning the transfer of regulatory control for electricity supply back to Sabah and financial support provided whenever necessary. The Prime Minister also addressed the water supply issue at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), noting that the federal government approved RM3 million to resolve the problem.
Anwar further elaborated on the agreement reached with the Sabah government to transfer electricity supply regulatory powers, which will take effect on January 3, 2024. He also reviewed the Sabah Pan-Borneo project and stressed the importance of an open and transparent tender process to ensure efficient implementation.
The Prime Minister expressed his concern over local parties exploiting local sentiments and deviating from pressing issues such as the misuse of national resources and governance challenges. He urged parties to focus on serving the people rather than engaging in divisive politics.
He concluded by conveying the importance of cooperation between local parties and the federal government, emphasizing that a lack of commitment from leadership could lead to adverse effects on the populace. The state election polling is scheduled for November 29, with early voting set for November 25.
