Kota Kinabalu: UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN) must regain their dominance in Sabah in the upcoming state election to drive greater development and progress for the state, said UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister and BN chairman emphasized that for UMNO and BN to be dominant, they must secure more seats in the 17th state election compared to the previous one.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid highlighted his commitment to advocating for more development in Sabah to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. As the Minister of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), he ensured that Sabah received the largest allocation from KKDW. He expressed his dedication to Sabah's progress even before the election and promised further advancements if the parties become dominant.
During the 34th anniversary celebration of Sabah UMNO, Ahmad Zahid announced he would personally oversee the preparation of Sabah UMNO and BN's manifesto for the state election. He assured that the party would focus on resolving basic infrastructure issues such as roads, electricity, and water supply rather than making lofty promises. The completion of the Pan Borneo Highway (Sabah), attracting more investments and tourists, and prioritizing Sabah's security are key components of their manifesto.
Ahmad Zahid stated that while Sabah UMNO and BN aim to establish their dominance, they are open to cooperation with other parties that share similar objectives, focusing on the interests of the people of Sabah. The party plans to consider candidates from various ethnic groups, including increasing the number of women candidates.
Furthermore, Ahmad Zahid pledged to closely monitor the performance of party candidates, ensuring they effectively serve the people if elected in the Sabah state election.
