Kota kinabalu: More than 148,300 participants have taken part in the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) in Sabah since its launch in January 2025.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) Corporate Communications stated that the KIS Community Carnival is part of ongoing efforts to educate the public on safe and responsible Internet use. The recent event saw over 500 residents from Kalabakan and surrounding areas participating in the KIS Community Carnival for Kalabakan district, organized by MCMC at FELDA Umas in conjunction with the National Month celebration.
The carnival focused on raising awareness about online scams, with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) providing information on financial scam tactics, identity impersonation threats, and self-protection measures. The knowledge shared at the event was crucial in helping the public identify risks early and prevent financial losses that could impact individuals and families.
Various government agencies and strategic partners, including the police (PDRM), Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), Employees Provident Fund (EPF), and Lembaga Tabung Haji, also participated by offering information, advice, and services related to digital safety, financial protection, education, and social well-being to the local community.
MCMC emphasized that the implementation of KIS in Kalabakan demonstrates its commitment to expanding digital safety advocacy to grassroots communities, especially in rural areas and locations beyond major urban centers. In today's digital economy, internet safety is directly linked to the ability of individuals to protect personal information, savings, and family well-being from cyber threats.
The KIS Community Carnival, held as part of the National Month celebration, promoted Internet safety through community activities with patriotic elements such as the Merdeka Fun Run, Citra Malaysia Attire Competition, and Sukaneka Rakyat. The carnival, officiated by Kalabakan MP Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy, aimed to bring digital safety advocacy closer to the local community through a more accessible and relatable approach.
