Safe Internet Campaign Exceeds 2025 Target in Malaysia

Kuala lumpur: The Safe Internet Campaign, organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), has exceeded its target for 2025 by reaching 8,216 schools and educational institutions, as announced by Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the target for this year was set at 8,000 schools and educational institutions, and the campaign has already surpassed this milestone as of November 20. Fahmi highlighted the importance of the campaign, which is currently being conducted in 58 schools in one day, aiming to eventually cover over 10,000 primary and secondary schools across the nation. The campaign addresses crucial issues such as cyberbullying, scams, paedophilia, and sexual crimes against children.

Fahmi expressed confidence that the campaign would reach every school nationwide by the first quarter of the next year. The campaign's primary objective is to educate students on safe and responsible internet use, thereby enhancing digital literacy and fostering a more positive online environment. It specifically targets issues like cyberbullying, online scams, digital gambling, and child sexual abuse content.

Furthermore, Fahmi urged parents to discourage children under 16 from using social media and expressed hope that social media platform operators would adhere to the government's decision to prohibit children below this age from having social media accounts.
