Kuala lumpur: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail was today briefed by representatives of the Advance Passenger Screening System (APSS) operator on the first phase of its implementation, which began on October 31. In a Facebook post, Saifuddin Nasution stated that 10 airlines were involved in this initial phase to test the system's effectiveness before passengers arrive at Malaysia's international entry points.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this initiative is part of the Home Ministry's ongoing commitment to enhance border control through smarter and more proactive technology, aiming to safeguard national security and sovereignty while adhering to international standards. The APSS, implemented by the Home Ministry, seeks to bolster immigration control by screening passenger information prior to their arrival in the country, thereby allowing authorities to identify high-risk individuals early and take necessary proactive measures.

Earlier reports highlighted that the first phase of APSS involves collaboration with 10 major international airlines, including Malaysia Airlines, VietJet Air, Emirates, Scoot, and US-Bangla Airlines. The system is slated for expansion to all international airlines by March next year. It adheres to United Nations Security Council resolutions and global safety standards, including those established by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.
