SAM-100PLUS 2022 AWARDS GET OVER 200 PARTICIPATIONS

The Sportswriters Association of Malaysia (SAM)-100PLUS 2022 award received more than 200 quality reports and pictures on the local sports scene for the whole of last year.

Confirming the matter, SAM president Norismadi Abdul Manap said the list of winners for each category was also more comprehensive, and there were even first-time entries that managed to break into the top five.

“I congratulate SAM members who submitted their entries, I think this time there will be many surprises… there are first time participants who have successfully placed in the top five and the quality of their work can be seen based on the feedback from the jury we appointed,” he said at a press conference on the award here, today.

At the same time, after introducing the Popular Sports Commentator award in this edition, Norismadi did not rule out the possibility that the Best Sports Commentator category will be introduced in future editions to appreciate the role of local commentators who are SAM members.

Meanwhile, SAM-100PLUS 2022 Award Committee chairman Hazreen Mubarak said the Best Sports Photography category received the most response with more than 60 entries.

“We received more than 200 entries including for the categories of Best News Report, Best News Commentary, Best Special Report… the most popular was Best Sports Photography, which received more than 60 entries and the contesting photos were really impressive which gave the panel (jury) a hard time to select the winner,” he said.

The SAM-100PLUS 2022 award is scheduled to take place on August 29 at a hotel here.

A total of six categories are up for grabs namely Best News Report (Print Media), Best News Report (Electronic Media), Best News Review (Print Media), Best News Review (Electronic Media), Best Special Report (Open) and Best Sports Photography offering a total cash prize of over RM50,000.

The overall best winner for the Sports Journalism category will be crowned the recipient of the Siebel Award with a cash prize of RM7,000 and a trophy.

Also in the spotlight at the award ceremony was the title of Best Athlete and Best Para Athlete 2022 when the candidates consisted of a line-up of world champions who honoured the country’s name on the international stage last year.
