Kangar: Syarikat Air Perlis Sdn Bhd (SAP) has submitted a proposal for a review of water tariff rates to the National Water Services Commission (SPAN). State Infrastructure, Transport and Border Relations Committee chairman Izizam Ibrahim emphasized the need for a water tariff review to support increased maintenance activities for ageing assets and to repair the state's deteriorating pipe infrastructure and water distribution system, which currently suffers from high leakage and water loss rates.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the proposed tariff adjustment is also vital for covering the costs of upgrading water treatment plants and settling outstanding loans and debts from previous projects. Izizam Ibrahim highlighted that this adjustment is expected to ensure the long-term sustainability of the water supply, maintain an efficient, safe, and continuous system, and strengthen the overall resilience of the water supply network across the state.
Last Wednesday, it was reported that SPAN was still reviewing the application for water tariff adjustments from water service operators in 10 states under its supervision, including Perlis.
