SARA Appreciation Aid to Be Automatically Distributed Without Registration: Teo

Kuala lumpur: The RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) Appreciation Aid will be automatically disbursed to eligible recipients without the need for registration, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching confirmed. This announcement follows social media posts that incorrectly claimed a registration process was necessary to receive the aid.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo addressed the issue after attending the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) carnival for Tamil National-Type Schools (SJKT) in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. She cited information from the Ministry of Finance clarifying that the RM100 SARA aid requires no registration, countering the misleading social media claims.

Teo also mentioned that the ministry has not yet received a comprehensive report on the removal of false posts regarding SARA. She highlighted that individuals who have not yet reached 18 years this year are still eligible to receive the aid through their MyKad, as was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in July.

Further, Teo discussed the planned implementation of MyDigital ID for prepaid SIM card registration. This initiative aims to limit the number of prepaid numbers per person and prevent misuse for fraudulent activities. She expressed confidence that MyDigital ID would streamline processes, including enabling a single sign-on feature for mobile phones.

During her visit, Teo interacted with participants at the KIS carnival, an event organized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) with support from the Ministry of Education and the Tamil School Principals' Association of Malaysia. The carnival saw participation from 107 SJKT in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, as part of MCMC's strategic outreach to ensure comprehensive school involvement.

As of September 1, a total of 1,928 schools nationwide have participated in the KIS modules. This includes 144 in Selangor, 76 in Kuala Lumpur, and a mix of SJKT and Chinese National-Type Schools (SJKC) across the regions.
