Sarawak Assembly Concludes: Six Bills Passed with Overwhelming Support

Kuching: The 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting concluded sine die today, following eight days of deliberations that began on May 19. During this period, six significant bills were passed with overwhelming support.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the adjournment was announced by the State Assembly Speaker, Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar. The motion to adjourn was tabled by Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Premier's Department (Law, Malaysia Agreement 1963, and State-Federal Relations).

The first bill passed was the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (Amendment) Bill 2025, which aims to enhance the Centre's capabilities by allowing it to commercialize intellectual property, seek external funding, and establish subsidiary companies to market research outputs.

The Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2025 followed, introducing a formal mechanism for registering waqf, or religious endowment lands, in Sarawak's land registry.

Other legislation passed included the Infrastructure Development Trust Fund (Dissolution) Bill, the Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill 2025, and two Supplementary Supply Bills. The 2024 bill approved an additional RM153,769,197, while the 2025 bill allocated RM237,660,520.
