Sarawak: Sarawak Energy, together with representatives from the local media, planted 600 trees at the Samunsam Wildlife Sanctuary here as part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability. Sarawak Energy Group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili stated that the programme forms part of the company's ongoing environmental conservation efforts and supports its target of planting 500,000 trees across Sarawak by 2030.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, since the programme was launched in 2021, Sarawak Energy has planted about 260,000 trees in protected forest areas throughout the state. "Today, we planted 600 trees as part of our efforts to promote environmental sustainability while contributing to the company's target of planting 500,000 trees across Sarawak by 2030. This initiative reflects Sarawak Energy's continued commitment to biodiversity conservation, habitat restoration, and climate change mitigation through close collaboration with various stakeholders," Datuk Sharbini Suhaili told reporters after the programme.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) deputy general manager (Conservation) Madhan Kiflie mentioned that the programme demonstrated the strong collaboration between the government, the corporate sector, the media, and local communities in efforts to restore forests and combat climate change. He noted that seven tree species were selected for planting, including the ketapang and rhu, which provide an important food source for wildlife while helping to accelerate the restoration of natural habitats.

The programme involved about 70 participants, including nearly 40 media practitioners from various Sarawak-based media organisations.
