Kuching: The Sarawak state government is prepared to engage with the federal government to outline the scope of cooperation between Petroleum Sarawak Bhd (Petros) and Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), as stated by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Although no dates have been set for the discussions, the collaboration is seen as beneficial for both parties.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Premier Abang Johari expressed his willingness to participate in discussions as soon as they are initiated. He emphasized the importance of the effort to discuss, highlighting it as a positive collaboration. His comments came after launching a dental clinic.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that the discussions would address cooperation aspects, including new projects to be explored by both companies. During a Dewan Rakyat briefing, Anwar affirmed the federal government's recognition of Sarawak's aspirations in the state's oil and gas industry. This aspiration is reflected in the Gas Distribution Ordinance 2016 (Amendment) (DGO), which will be effective on March 1, 2025.
