Sarawak Primary School Heads Urged To Register Students For YSISS Entrance Assessments

SIBU, Primary school headmasters across Sarawak are encouraged to ensure their students take the online assessment test for entry into Yayasan Sarawak International Secondary School (YSISS).

Sarawak Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said this was because admission or registration for the school was managed through the headmasters.

“The assessment test is open to all students, but they must register or go through their headmaster.

“That’s why I encourage headmasters to ensure their students take the test, as applications are made through them, and only after taking the test will students be shortlisted for entry into the international school,” he said.

Dr Annuar said this after officiating the 49th Sibu Urban Zone Primary School Sports Council (MSSR) Athletics Championships at Tun Zaidi Stadium today.

When asked about the latest update on the assessment test for entry in 2025, held on Oct 19, Dr Annuar said he did not have specific data on the matter.

Ho
wever, he noted that the test was open to students across Sarawak for admission to the two YSISS campuses in Kuching.

For YSISS in Sibu, expected to be completed by the end of this year, Dr Annuar said the first intake cohort would be in 2026.

“This means this year’s Year Five students, who will be in Year Six next year, will have the opportunity to receive education at the school as part of the first cohort,” he said.

In addition to taking the assessment test, other requirements for entry into YSISS include a minimum qualification of Band 5 (TP5) in classroom assessment for Bahasa Melayu, English, Science, and Mathematics, and either the student or one of their parents must be a Sarawakian or a permanent resident of Sarawak.
