Sarawak State Government Approves Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd as Bintulu Port Operator

Sarawak: The Sarawak state government has approved in principle the appointment of Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd's wholly owned subsidiary, Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB), as the port operator of Bintulu Port under Section 12(2) of the Port Authorities Ordinance, 1961.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, this approval follows the transition of Bintulu Port from a federal port to a state port, which took place on June 21. As part of this transition, the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) and BPSB are set to enter into a preliminary agreement, known as the heads of agreement, while they work towards finalizing and executing the port operation concession agreement (POCA).

Bintulu Port Holdings stated in a filing with Bursa Malaysia that until the POCA is executed, BPSB will continue to control, manage, operate, and conduct port-related business activities at Bintulu Port. This will be done in compliance with the applicable laws and the terms mutually agreed upon by the involved parties.
