Sarawak: The Sarawak government has announced plans to allocate approximately RM600 million to provide free education for students in the state who wish to further their studies beginning next year. This initiative is aimed at students pursuing higher education at four universities owned by the state government, covering a total of 64 courses.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee, the State Deputy Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, clarified that this educational funding will apply exclusively to Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), Universiti Curtin Malaysia, Sarawak Swinburne University, and I-Cats University College. The announcement was made during a speech at the central zone Sarawak Women's, Children and Community Welfare Development Ministry outreach programme, officiated by Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
Dr Annuar emphasized that despite Sarawak premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg not promising free tertiary education during any election campaigns, the decision to proceed with this initiative reflects a commitment to the educational welfare of Sarawak's youth.
