Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) today officially launched the National Science Week (MSN) Carnival 2026 for the Sarawak Zone. The ministry stated that this year's edition is significant for its mission to overcome geographical barriers and ignite the spirit of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in interior and rural areas, aiming to nurture a technology-literate generation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the secretary-general of MOSTI, Datuk Dr Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, highlighted in his speech that MSN 2026 is a key government initiative to foster a culture of science, technology, and innovation. "The Sarawak Zone MSN Carnival 2026 will also engage school students through outreach activities under the STEM Catalysts Programme to reach students in rural schools in Sarawak, particularly in the Meradong, Bintulu, and Belaga districts," he said.

The event, spanning two days, was inaugurated by Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development of Sarawak, Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, at the Sarawak Science Centre. MOSTI introduced nuclear technology advocacy during the carnival, signaling a paradigm shift aimed at building public confidence and social acceptance towards the safe application of nuclear technology.

Additionally, the carnival launched a citizen science platform accessible through the sainsrakyat.my portal. This platform invites all segments of society, including rural communities, to contribute real-world data to drive research and science-based solutions.
