Simunjan: The Sarawak government is actively implementing various economic transformations that positively impact the lives of the people, both in urban and rural areas, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. He added that the construction of the coastal road connecting Tanjung Datu to Lawas would be able to raise the people's income, in addition to strengthening the foundation of development in various sectors, including agriculture, social services and infrastructure.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Abang Johari emphasized the need for multiple bridges to connect areas separated by rivers, acknowledging the high costs involved in such infrastructure projects. He mentioned that the Gedong and Simunjan areas are already experiencing the benefits of this development due to their historical and administrative connections.
Abang Johari also announced the construction of a four-lane road from Serian to Simunjan, passing through Gedong and Samarahan, which will extend to Tanjung Embang, the location of Sarawak's new airport. This development is part of a broader plan that includes a gas terminal, aiming to create employment opportunities and stimulate the local economy.
Additionally, the Sarawak government plans to build a river embankment in Simunjan to prevent erosion. This project, with an approved allocation of over RM100 million, is currently in the design phase and aims to emulate the riverbank of Kuching city.
