SARAWAK’S PREPARATION FOR 13MP SET TO COMMENCE THIS YEAR – ABANG JOHARI

KUCHING, Sarawak’s preparation for the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is set to commence this year with the primary focus on implementing the second phase of its Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that under the 13MP, the Sarawak government would continue efforts to increase the median household income and alleviate hardcore poverty.

‘We will ensure that all ‘Anak Sarawak’ (Sarawakians) receive the necessary training and education to develop a skilled and productive workforce,’ he said when winding up the debate at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly here today.

He said Sarawak’s starting point in implementing the strategies and initiatives laid out in PCDS 2030 was made during the 12th Malaysia Plan, which would conclude in December next year.

‘My administration will continue to rigorously monitor and track PCDS 2030 targets to actively solve problems and expedite the implementation of Sarawak’s priority projects,’ he said.

While welcoming the World
Bank’s recognition of Sarawak as a high-income economy based on its gross national income (GNI) per capita of US$18,360 (US$1=RM4.70), Abang Johari said Sarawak’s household income could also increase through the use of technology and innovation.

‘With higher efficiency and productivity, we will be able to increase household income, resulting in higher standard of living in Sarawak,’ he said.

According to Abang Johari, Sarawak has achieved a multitude of accomplishments, particularly through the successful execution of projects that have brought significant value and substantial impact.

“These encompass a wide range of projects, namely the construction of physical and digital infrastructure, utilities, environmental initiatives, housing developments, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and socio-economic programmes,’ he added.
