Kuala Lampur:All schools in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor, along with those in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and the Rompin district of Pahang, will be closed tomorrow due to haze conditions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek announced that schools in other regions, including Perlis, Perak, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan, will remain open. She urged State Education Departments and District Education Offices to monitor the haze situation closely and take swift action if necessary.
Fadhlina acknowledged the disruption caused to parents by the school closures and emphasized the importance of early announcements to allow families to plan accordingly. She reassured that student and staff safety and health are the top priorities for the ministry. Parents are advised to stay informed through official communications from schools, district, and state education offices.
The Negeri Sembilan Education Department ordered the closures following high Air Pollutant Index (API) readings in Port Dickson, Seremban, and Nilai. In Melaka, the decision was based on continuous monitoring and environmental reports indicating unhealthy API levels over 150. The Putrajaya Education Department cited API readings from local monitoring stations as the basis for closure, while Kuala Lumpur's decision was informed by readings from Cheras and Batu Muda stations.
In Selangor, the Islamic Religious Department announced the closure of all state religious schools, advising private Islamic schools to comply. Affected institutions are required to implement Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) to maintain educational continuity, considering students' needs and teachers' readiness. Teachers and support personnel are permitted to work from home during the closure period.
