Serian: All primary and secondary schools under the Serian District Education Office (PPD) will operate as usual from tomorrow, the Sarawak Education Department (JPNS) said in a statement today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, any changes or latest updates would be announced from time to time, while schools have been reminded to prioritise the health and safety of students, teachers, and school personnel. JPNS emphasized the welfare, health, and safety of students, especially when facing hot weather or any unexpected weather conditions.

Schools have been advised to follow the stipulated standard operating procedures and refer to the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) Circular Letter No. 1 of 2019. This letter outlines measures by the MOE to ensure the health and safety of students in schools located in areas with critical haze conditions, dated January 15, 2019.

JPNS also instructed all educational institutions under its supervision to adhere to the guidelines contained in the MOE Circular Letter No. 3 of 2023. This includes guidelines for the implementation of outdoor activities at educational institutions under the MOE during hot weather, dated June 6, 2023.

Additionally, schools are advised to stay updated by referring to the Department of Environment's official portal and the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) to monitor air quality levels in their respective areas. They should also follow advice from the Ministry of Health to safeguard the well-being of students and education personnel.
