SEA Games: Dr Mohammed Taufiq Lauds Malaysian Contingent For Securing Over 50 Gold Medals

Bangkok: New Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari is proud of the performance of the Malaysian contingent who has now won more than 50 gold medals at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games here, today. Dr Mohammed Taufiq hopes that the country's athletes who are still battling will achieve more glory before the 33rd edition of the biennial sports games draws to a close at the Rajamangala National Stadium here, tomorrow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohammed Taufiq expressed his congratulations to all Malaysian athletes, emphasizing the hard work and dedication of the teams and secretariats. He acknowledged their efforts in making the country proud and highlighted the importance of preparing for the upcoming SEA Games in Malaysia in 2027. Dr Taufiq's presence at the games marks his first duty as minister, an opportunity he embraced by witnessing the squash action at Vajiravudh College.

As of 2 pm today, the Malaysian contingent has collected 51 gold medals, 51 silver medals, and 110 bronze medals. This impressive medal haul brings Malaysia's total to 212 medals, surpassing the previously set target of 200 medals.

The 2025 Thailand SEA Games is being held from December 9 to 20 in Bangkok and Chonburi. Dr Mohammed Taufiq's recent appointment as Youth and Sports Minister was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last Tuesday. This appointment was part of the MADANI Government's Cabinet reshuffle, which aimed to fill several vacant positions. Dr Taufiq, the Sungai Petani MP, replaces Hannah Yeoh, who has taken on a new role as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories).
