Pulau yu: The search and rescue (SAR) operation for Eser Demirkol, a Turkiye national who went missing after the yacht 'Daisy' capsized in the waters off Pulau Yu, entered its third day today. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia) Terengganu has been leading the efforts to locate Demirkol after the incident.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the current search is concentrated on a sector covering 73.5 square nautical miles. The operation, which commenced at 7 am, utilizes both aerial and sea assets from Maritime Malaysia and the Marine Police. Additionally, divers from Maritime Malaysia are scheduled to conduct dives in the search area today in hopes of finding Demirkol.
The unfortunate incident began when three Turkiye nationals, yacht captain Ahmet Volkan Ata, 52, Ates Demiroren, 42, and Demirkol, 52, embarked on a sailing expedition to return to their home country on Monday, July 28. The yacht 'Daisy' was reportedly struck by a storm on Tuesday evening, July 29, causing it to capsize near Pulau Yu.
Demiroren was successfully rescued by local fishermen at noon on Thursday, while Volkan Ata was found safe later that night by another fishing boat, having impressively swum for over 40 hours. The search continues for Demirkol, with authorities and local communities remaining hopeful for his safe recovery.
