Wadi hana: The second train for the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project is anticipated to arrive at the Wadi Hana Depot by the end of September, following the completion of testing at the CRRC facility in Batu Gajah, Perak. This development marks a significant step in the ongoing project aimed at enhancing regional connectivity.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) chief executive officer Dr. Ahmad Marzuki Ariffin stated that this train will be the inaugural set to enter the depot for the subsequent round of tests. The first RTS train is currently in Singapore undergoing the Offsite Systems Integration Test (OSIT), subsequent to its unveiling during a launch ceremony in late June. This train is projected to be moved to the Wadi Hana Depot in the latter half of November.
The Wadi Hana Depot, positioned approximately one kilometer north of the Bukit Chagar RTS Link Station, serves as the future maintenance and operations hub for the RTS Link. The depot is strategically located away from the main line that connects Bukit Chagar Station in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North Station in Singapore.
The RTS Link project encompasses eight train sets, with the second through eighth trains in the final stages of production at the Batu Gajah CRRC facility. These sets will be gradually delivered to Johor Bahru by the close of 2025. Ahmad Marzuki highlighted that as of the end of August, the rail system works had reached nearly 61 percent completion, with the majority of system testing finalized. Current efforts are concentrated on installation and on-site testing.
The project, a four-kilometer link between Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North in Singapore, is slated for completion in December 2026, with operations commencing in early 2027. The rail transport system is anticipated to accommodate up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction, with an estimated daily ridership of approximately 40,000.
