Securities Commission Malaysia Returns RM1.98 Million to Investors in 2025

Kuala Lumpur:The Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) successfully returned RM1.98 million to 239 investors in 2025 through enforcement action against violations of capital market laws.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan announced that RM8.6 million had been allocated for restitution involving 933 investors. This allocation underscores the SC's commitment to protecting investors' interests and maintaining the integrity of Malaysia's capital market.

The SC's enforcement efforts in the previous year resulted in nine criminal convictions, with total fines amounting to RM13.1 million. Through civil action, the courts imposed and recovered illicit gains and civil penalties totaling RM2.1 million, while an additional RM9.08 million was recovered through regulatory settlements.

Amir Hamzah, during the Ministers' Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat, responded to a question from Khoo Poay Tiong regarding the SC's effectiveness in combating the so-called 'corporate mafia' to protect investors. He emphasized that the government delineates the responsibilities of regulatory agencies based on their legal mandates, and issues spanning multiple jurisdictions are managed through information sharing and coordinated enforcement actions.

He highlighted the successful cooperation between the SC and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in 2024 and 2025, which led to the blocking and suspension of 328 websites, 388 Telegram accounts, and 60 phone numbers associated with financial scams and fake investment schemes. Additionally, the SC's participation in national coordination platforms, such as the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre, National Coordination Committee to Counter Money Laundering, and the National Scam Response Centre, was strengthened in March 2026.
