Kuala lumpur: Police have reclassified the death of a 54-year-old security guard, who was assaulted outside a condominium on Jalan Ipoh, as murder. The incident, which occurred on October 13, has prompted a shift in the legal approach to the case.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sentul police chief ACP Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari announced the update in the investigation following the victim's death. "The investigation paper has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he stated at the Sentul district police headquarters.

The suspect, a 32-year-old man believed to be a tenant at the condominium, remains free on police bail, awaiting further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor. Initially, the case was investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for intentionally causing injury with a weapon. However, the classification was revised after the victim's death.

Ahmad Sukarno also mentioned the seizure of a lighter resembling a pistol from the suspect. The victim had previously filed a police report claiming that the suspect had brandished an object resembling a pistol at him.

Media reports indicated that the victim, R. Chandran, was attacked by a male tenant while on duty at the condominium's checkpoint. The incident occurred around 5 am, when the suspect allegedly slapped, punched, and stomped on the victim's body after his request for an escort to another block was denied, as the guard was unable to leave his post.

Following the attack, the victim, who sustained soft tissue injuries to his head, received treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital before returning home. Tragically, he later fell unconscious at home and was confirmed dead from a heart attack.
