Selangor Government Intensifies Efforts to Combat Illegal Waste Dumping

Shah alam:<Text>

The Selangor government has announced a comprehensive plan to tackle illegal waste dumping across the state, emphasizing stricter enforcement and enhanced inter-agency coordination. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari outlined these efforts to address public demands for improved cleanliness and solid waste management.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin stated that the initiative aims to eradicate illegal waste disposal sites in Selangor. He emphasized the importance of coordinated action among local authorities, the Land Office, and other relevant agencies to ensure effective waste management. Amirudin has committed to personally overseeing these efforts with the involvement of all parties concerned.

The state government's focus on eliminating illegal waste dumping is driven by the negative impact on residents' quality of life. Amirudin stressed that waste management issues require decisive action and cannot be solved through inte r-agency blame-shifting. He called for close cooperation among KDEB Waste Management, local authorities, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure collective enforcement.

As part of a concrete measure, the state has allocated RM10 million under the Kita Selangor 2026 Special Initiative. This funding will support village cleaning and beautification programs, targeting areas with inefficient waste collection. Amirudin aims to resolve issues involving waste accumulation in village areas, including traditional and new villages, as well as Indian communities outside local council jurisdictions.

Amirudin expressed optimism that through firm enforcement, comprehensive cooperation, and the development of new facilities like the Waste-to-Energy plant scheduled for completion in March 2026, Selangor will achieve a cleaner and more sustainable environment. Cleanup efforts will prioritize hotspot areas frequently mentioned in public complaints, such as the Hulu Langat district and area s with homestay and chalet activities.
