Kuala Lumpur: The Selangor Government is gearing up to conduct an internal investigation and audit across all its agencies to uncover any other departments involved in the illegal transfer of land titles through the e-Tanah system. This move comes as part of a comprehensive effort to tackle the issue of illegal land transfer activities in the region, according to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin announced the potential probe following a recommendation from the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID). The CCID had advised all government agencies, particularly the Klang District and Land Office (PDT), to perform an internal audit and investigation to determine if other PDTs were implicated in the illegal land transfer cartel operating within the state.
In response to the CCID's suggestion, Amirudin stated that the state government is considering an audit to ensure that similar illegal activities have not occurred in other agencies and departments. He also emphasized the need for stricter standard operating procedures (SOP) regarding the e-Tanah system to prevent further misconduct, particularly the illegal transfer of land titles. A new measure will require every individual accessing the system to register a username, enabling the tracking and identification of users and their activities.
The investigation follows reports of an illegal land transfer operation involving insiders at the Klang PDT, which led to the arrest of 17 civil servants since September of the previous year. These individuals are suspected of participating in a cartel that facilitated the illegal transfer of 9.4 hectares of land valued at RM7.1 million. Selangor Land and Mines Office (PTGS) director Datuk Dr Yusri Zakariah confirmed that seven staff members at the Klang PDT were among those arrested. PTGS' internal investigation suggested that the crime occurred during the transition from the old system to the new e-Tanah system, with the implicated staff being reassigned to departments unrelated to land matters.
