Selangor Govt to Present Comprehensive Flood Mitigation Update at DUN

Shah alam: The Selangor state government is set to provide an in-depth update on the status, progress, and challenges of its flood mitigation projects during the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session tomorrow. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari emphasized that the flood issue, highlighted by the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, remains a focus, prompting ongoing improvement measures over recent years.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government has implemented numerous improvements to address flooding, aligning with current needs and the challenges of climate change. These efforts cover various technical and policy aspects, and a comprehensive explanation will be presented by the state Executive Council member for Infrastructure and Agriculture, Datuk Izham Hashim, after the debate session in the Selangor DUN on Monday.

Amirudin spoke to reporters following a ceremony at the Al-Hidayah Mosque, where contributions from the 2026 Muassasah Haj Incentive for the Gombak parliamentary constituency were presented. The initiative covers Sungai Tua, Gombak Setia, and Hulu Kelang.

As the Sungai Tua assemblyman and Gombak MP, Amirudin stated that the state government is collaborating with the Netherlands to improve flood management strategies through a pilot project along Sungai Bernam in Sabak Bernam. This project aims to reduce and control flood risks by incorporating foreign technical and engineering expertise, while involving local agencies such as the state Department of Irrigation and Drainage.

He acknowledged that some flood mitigation projects are facing delays due to structural changes and the need for revised planning. Projects involving collaboration with the federal government, such as the Sungai Langat, are also affected by regulatory processes and approvals.

Despite these challenges, Amirudin assured that flood mitigation projects in Selangor have been consistently implemented, ensuring continuity from the previous year. He noted improvements in several flood-prone areas, including Bukit Lanchong in Subang Jaya, which has seen a reduction in flooding since its mitigation project upgrade in 2021.

Amirudin highlighted that deepening and cleaning the Sungai Klang bed has increased the river's capacity by up to 20 percent, reducing the risk of water overflow. He emphasized the importance of addressing public concerns about flooding and assured that the state government would respond prudently and systematically to clarify the measures taken.

Earlier, Amirudin presented RM1,500 in incentives to 236 prospective pilgrims from the Gombak area, in collaboration with the Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor Incorporated. The state government aims to assist approximately 6,000 pilgrims through this programme, with an allocation of RM9 million.
