Selangor: The Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) has taken action against 1,926 individuals who did not possess Vocational Driving Licences, Goods Driving Licences (GDL), or Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licences under 'Op Perang Lebih Muatan-Kenderaan Berat'.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor JPJ director Azrin Borhan stated that the operation also uncovered that 1,745 individuals did not have driving licences, while another 1,867 lacked Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM). Additionally, 679 individuals were found without insurance coverage, 747 were detained for overloading offences, and 20 were caught carrying loads exceeding 50 per cent of the permitted limit.

Azrin explained that the operation, which began on October 14 and concluded on November 10, involved the inspection of 50,839 vehicles. As a result, Selangor JPJ seized a 'low loader' lorry transporting rolled steel coil, and it was discovered that the driver did not have a valid GDL or Competent Driving Licence (CDL).

An investigation paper was subsequently opened for violating operator licence conditions under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715). An application will be made to the court to forfeit the vehicle under Section 80 of the same Act.

Azrin emphasized that Selangor JPJ would continue its enforcement efforts to ensure every driver possesses a valid and competent licence, particularly those operating heavy vehicles. He also urged commercial vehicle operators to be more responsible in maintaining their vehicles and complying with licensing conditions and road regulations.

The department aims to strengthen similar operations periodically to ensure the safety of all road users.
