Selangor KPDN Targets Unwarranted Price Hikes with Nine Notices Under Ops Kesan 6.0

Selangor: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) of Selangor issued nine notices to traders in the state through Ops Kesan 6.0 to ensure there are no unreasonable price increases following the global economic uncertainties.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor KPDN director Muhamad Hanif Asa'ari stated that the notices were issued under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. The purpose of these notices is to obtain detailed information from traders regarding the prices and costs of the goods involved.

The operation involved inspections of 46 Stock Keeping Units (SKUs), which included categories of daily consumer necessities. It also involved monitoring agricultural and livestock products, as well as petrochemical products such as plastic packaging.

The nine notices issued to traders under Ops Kesan 6.0 serve as an intervention measure and a deterrent to ensure traders remain vigilant and ethical, refraining from exploiting the current global situation. Inspections are set to continue and expand across various levels of the business supply chain, including producers, manufacturers, breeders, farmers, distributors, and wholesalers throughout the duration of Ops Kesan 6.0, which will last until August 31.

Muhamad Hanif emphasized that individuals or companies found to have increased prices unreasonably and violated anti-profiteering laws would face stern action, including imprisonment and fines upon conviction. He also mentioned that the Selangor KPDN is open to providing advice on the basic principles and mechanisms for determining profiteering, ensuring traders are always aware of the laws being enforced.
